Turning Movement Counts

What is a Turning Movement Count?

Turning Movement Counts identify the number of vehicles moving in a particular direction at a junction (crossroad, roundabout, T-junction etc.)

Cameras are placed in locations that allow the entire junction to be recorded for an agree period of time.  The turning movements are then counted either manually or using AI software, depending on the number of vehicles passing through.  A great deal of information can be gleaned from turning movement counts.

The data is presented in an easy to read excel format.

Common Uses:

  • To ascertain the volume of vehicles turning in particular directions at a junction.

  • The data is generally used for planning purposes to identify possible strategies to improve the flow of traffic.
